Introduction
Safepoint expanded beyond workplace safety solutions to launch Callie, a consumer-focused personal safety device and wearable aimed primarily at women in high-risk environments. Working with experts in jewellery design and wearable technology, they built a discreet, reassuring product and partnered with Layers Studio to design the mobile app that brings it to life.
The Challenge
The core challenge was designing a mobile experience that could match the urgency and emotional sensitivity of personal safety. The app needed to pair seamlessly with the Callie device while staying simple, clear, and fast under pressure. It also had to serve a broad user base, from digital natives to those less comfortable with mobile apps , making accessibility and intuitive design non-negotiable.
What I Did
I started with stakeholder workshops alongside Safepoint's team to align on objectives, target audience, and core values, drawing on their existing internal research to inform the design direction. From there I developed user stories to identify needs and pain points, and mapped the full user journey from onboarding through to emergency alert use.
I designed the end-to-end UX and UI for the app, prioritising a frictionless onboarding flow, a streamlined emergency alert process, and a real-time status feature for peace of mind. I created wireframes, a comprehensive style guide covering typography, colour, iconography and imagery, and interactive prototypes to validate design decisions. Subtle animations were used throughout to provide reassurance and guide users clearly through critical actions, keeping the experience calm and confident even in stressful moments.
